Now it is confirmed officially that Serena Williams pregnant now.

On the basis of that timescale it means that Williams won the Australian Open in January – her 23rd grand slam singles title – in the first few weeks of her pregnancy.

Williams wouldn’t be the first top women’s player to return to competition after having a baby, but she would be the oldest.

Serena Williams and finacé Alex Ohanian got engaged in December.

It’s another love game for Serena Williams: She is pregnant, and based on the timeline she offered, she already was when she won the Australian Open.

She remains tantalizingly close to the all-time grand slam record held by Australia’s Margaret Court, whose 24 major titles were split between the amateur and professional eras. However that was later taken down only for her spokesperson to confirm the rumours later on Wednesday.

Neither Williams nor Ohanian have posted anything else on social media or commented publicly on Williams’s potential, but her fans instantly chimed in, congratulating her on her latest achievement.

A number of players stand to benefit from Williams’ absence for the remainder of the year, including German Angelique Kerber who last year unseated the American from the top of the world rankings. Apart from that there has been no statement on the same by the tennis star herself.

The tennis legend fueled pregnancy rumors when she posted a photo of her growing baby bump on her SnapChat page. She has announced that she will return to the tour this summer.

In March, she withdrew from the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, California, and the Miami Open, citing a knee injury. Serena Williams has defied the odds throughout her life, and literally just won a Grand Slam while eight weeks pregnant. But none of that is even the point: Serena Williams’ career and career choices are entirely her own. Kim Clijsters retired from tennis to start a family and then came back to win the US Open in 2009 and 2010 and the Australian Open in 2011.
