Serena Williams pens female-power poem for fashion show
NEW YORK, NY – SEPTEMBER 08: Serena Williams of the United States walks onto the court before playing against Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic during her Women’s Singles Semifinal Match on Day Eleven of the 2016 US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on September 8, 2016 in the Queens borough of New York City.

Williams interspersed the long-form poem that she wrote and recited on the soundtrack with music from women only, including her buddy Beyonce’s “Lemonade”. “I played it for Beyoncé and she loved it”. Her failure shaped her into the successful woman she is today and is why she’s truly one of the greatest athletes of all time.
The Serena Williams Signature Statement Spring 2017 collection is modeled during Fashion Week in New York, Monday, Sept. 12, 2016.
The former world number one rocked yet another fashion show at NYFW 2016, showing the world that she has plans on increasing her net worth even when she is not doing so well professionally.
The idea, said the tennis great, was to carry that strength and unity into the clothes into her third show. With each passing look, the see-now-buy-now fall collection became immediately available for consumers on HSN’s web site.
She paired dainty stovepipe leggings in a soft rose with long, matching vests and cardigans, a velvet and fur-trimmed dress with sexy pumps, and a black lace gown worn over high-waisted shorts.
Christina Milian gave just a peak at her taut tummy as she sported a grey knit crop top along with flowy baggy white pants.
Along with her sister Venus and fellow tennis pro pal Caroline Wozniacki, Williams had the support of a battery of friends – Ciara, Nia Ali, Natasha Lyonne, Lala Anthony and Olympic track star Allyson Felix among them.
“It is very competitive spirit, but we’re in totally different fields”, Serena smiled. But with NYFW 2016 in full swing, she is healing her ego through her fashion show that many celebrities attended.
Also providing her with support was Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who not only sat front-row at the show, but has also helped Williams find her voice as a designer.
“It’s great, especially when you don’t win the U.S. Open”, Williams says with a laugh.

Asked if getting back to No. 1 is a top priority, Williams responded: “Right now I’m focused on fashion and then when I’m not I’m focused on Grand Slams”. “Her critiques are always so important to me”.
