Serena Williams sets women’s record of 307 victories in grand slams

World number one Serena Williams set a record for the number of women’s Grand Slam victories as she cruised into the fourth round of the US Open by beating Sweden’s Johanna Larsson at Flushing Meadows in New York City.

The top seed also hit a personal milestone with the victory in NY, registering a 307th career win to climb above Martina Navratilova’s tally for the most in the open era. Next up for Williams in the fourth round will be Yaroslava Shvedova on Monday for the Round of 16.

She’ll also grab career major title No. 23, which would set the record in the women’s Open era for that category.

“I feel OK”, Williams said after dispatching 47th-ranked Johanna Larsson 6-2, 6-1 in a crisp 60 minutes of third-round tennis.

After a poor second set, however, Murray tightened up in the third and fourth, pulling away from the Italian to seal a routine victory.

Williams now finds herself back in the fourth round of the US Open where she will next face recent Cincinnati victor and No. 10 seed Karolina Pliskova.
