“It was definitely good for me to have a match like this, to play a good player like her, especially since I haven’t played a match on hard court since early April”.

After a couple of years of slump, Serena Williams found her game again when he teamed up with coach and rumored boyfriend Patrick Mouratoglou as the world’s number one is looking to become the most dominant female tennis athlete of all time.

As Williams tries to become just the fourth woman to capture the calendar-year Grand Slam, Wozniacki is around to help take the pressure off. They don’t talk about how Williams winning the U.S. Open will complete a historical pursuit, just about everything else.

Serena also opens up about her second love, fashion.

After a long rain delay Germany’s Sabine Lisicki made quick work of Venus Williams, strolling into the second round of the Rogers Cup on Monday after routing the American 6-0, 6-3.

Following this, Pennetta broke early in the second set and stunned the crowd, with her set for victory from here, if she could remain composed and just hang on to the lead she had earned herself.

“It’s for sure a step in the right direction”, Bouchard told reporters.

“For me, Serena’s the best player in the world”, Halep said. Haven’t had a lot of match play recently, but I was able to raise my game and I think it was pretty competitive out there after that first set.

“I really had an off day”, Williams said.

The 33-year-old Williams rebuked unforced lapses for her initial battles.

“I feel like I have a desire to be better than ever”, she continued.

During the match, some fans cheered on Lisicki, but many tried to encourage Williams as she struggled.

About her opponent she said: She played really well today, her shots were deep and she did so many things so well.”

The American gave credit to Pennetta, not before lamenting her own performance in what was her first match of the US swing – her last could very well be a Grand Slam-sealing win at the US Open. “It’s not like I really choked or something”.
