Serena Williams worried by recent police shootings

If she had lost another final here, especially on her best surface of grass, more players would have believed she was vulnerable and that they could beat her.

In the end, Kerber’s stellar counter-punching defense was not enough to defuse the power game and booming serves of Williams, who prevailed 7-5, 6-3 in the Wimbledon final on Saturday.

This is the second major title together for the top-seeded team of Mahut and Herbert, who won the U.S. Open a year ago.

Mouratoglou hailed Serena’s serving as well as her play at the net, both of which were huge factors behind her victory on Saturday.

She added: “I have definitely had some sleepless nights, if I’m just honest, with a lot of stuff”.

In singles, Serena Williams got better as the tournament went along, taking the last 12 sets she played after dropping a tiebreaker to open her second-round match against Christina McHale.

“Actually, I felt a little more stress in the first set, ” Williams said.

Kerber was bidding to upset Williams for the second time in seven months, after stunning her prestigious opponent 161 days ago in the Australian Open final.

“It makes the victory even sweeter to know how hard I worked for it”, Williams said. I remember one through four.

And though she leveled the McHale match at a set apiece, Serena was down 0-2, 15-40 in the third.

“I find the very top players hate to lose more than they like to win”.

“I would like to see people, the public and the press and other athletes in general just realize and respect women for who we are, what we are and what we do”, she said.

After leaving Centre Court following her first match of the day, Williams was asked by ESPN whats the difference between winning championships when she was younger and now. “So she brought the energy from Game 1 and that really brought me up, too”.

“This ability to win the big matches, that’s what champions are made for and she showed that she was back”.

“But also I know that I played a good final. Then I started playing a little better”. “I’m going my own way”.
