Series in India not an option, says Pakistan’s cricket chief Shaharyar Khan

On Thursday, Pakistan’s T20 captain, Shahid Afridi, his should go to India and play a series only after the PCB gets written assurance of revenue sharing from its Indian counterpart.

According to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the PCB and BCCI, both countries are scheduled to play six series between 2015 and 2023 after a clearance from the Indian Government.

“I clearly told Manohar, ‘Why should we play our home series in India when we have already signed an agreement?'” Khan said.

The arch-rivals have not played a full series since 2007 and although Pakistan visited India in late 2012 for a short limited-overs series, that failed to pave the revival of the ties. After the BCCI’s AGM in Mumbai on Monday, Manohar had said that the board would be approaching the Indian government as soon as it was possible. “Yes, I have talked to him over phone and we may talk again in the next couple of days”, Manohar was quoted as saying by Times of India. “Pakistan should not make the same mistake for the third time”, Sethi said while clarifying that his statement was a “personal opinion” in an apparent shot at BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur. “So the series has to happen in India”, Shukla said.

“Manohar also said that the Indian board would provide the best security to our team and schedule the matches in places like Mohali and Kolkata where there is no problem in playing an Indo-Pak match. Unless there’s a secure state of affairs, PCB and the BCCI ought to cease asking for collection”, Azad added. “Importantly, I need to speak to the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take his permission, and only after that I will respond to them”.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Shashank Manohar has rejected Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Shahryar Khan’s claim that India have got clearance from the government to host a bilateral series with Pakistan in December. India’s next global assignment is a tour to Australia for five ODIs and three T20Is from January 12.
