Service Chiefs express satisfaction over Parrikar’s assurance on pay award
With resentment brewing in the defence services over the recommendations, ACM Raha and Admiral Lanba had earlier met Parrikar on Monday, when the minister had urged them to implement the recommendations after assuring them that the government would look into legitimate grievances.

Sources say that government employees are likely to get a pay hike between 15-20 per cent over their current compensation.
The Defence Ministry had issued a separate notification on September 6 on implementation of the Pay Commission recommendations, following which the three chiefs wrote to both the Prime Minister and Parrikar to better put on hold the implementation in view of the “unresolved anomalies” lowering the status of the armed forces versus their counterparts in police and civil administration.
Last week, chiefs of all three forces had issued a public signal about the implementation of the seventh Pay Commission recommendations being kept on hold, until the anomalies in the salaries and perks are fixed. The respective non-functional upgrade allows bureaucrats, who have passed, to get a higher pay scale as soon as they successfully achieve the next level and get into higher rank.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday assured the armed forces that he will try to resolve the issues around the 7th Pay Commission, especially the “anomalies” the service chiefs had raised with him. “The Services are satisfied with the response”, said Raha.

“The Services are satisfied with the response”, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha who is also the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee said in a statement on Wednesday after meeting Mr. Parrikar. “Changing the gazette notification is a tough task”. The common pay matrix for civilian and military services and allowances is also one of the demands made the defence personnel. Sources said that Parrikar assured the two that he will convey their grievances to the highest political levels.
