With the Supreme Court terming sacking of Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh past year as “unconstitutional”, the Centre on Wednesday said “a lot of developments had taken place post December” that led to a new regime.

“I welcome the verdict of the Supreme Court for reinstalling the Nabam Tuki-led Congress Government in Arunachal Pradesh”, Gogoi said.

The Supreme Court ruled as “unconstitutional” the decision by Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa to advance the assembly session in which the Congress Party government was dismissed. “Judiciary has restored faith of people in democracy”, Rawat said in a social media post.

Reacting to todays SC decision, the Congress CM Nabam Tuki told NDTV that,”It is a victory of democracy, the law has protected us and protected our country”. Government said it will do a “structured examination” of the order and its implications before making a detailed response.

The verdict, however, came as a big embarrassment for the BJP, especially on a day when party president Amit Shah was in Guwahati to launch the Northeast Democratic Alliance, a regional alliance of political parties of the northeast to decimate Congress. Rebel Congress leader Kalikho Pul was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the new government, with the support of 18 dissident Congress MLAs and two independents and 11 BJP MLAs, who gave outside support.

“We hope the Modi government will learn lessons from the Supreme Court judgement”.

“It is up to constitutional experts whether to dismiss the Governor or not and can not be done according to the demands of Congress”. Later, the Speaker, who was removed, went to the Court asking whether the Governor had the power to call a special session of the Assembly without consultation with the state govt.

Congress leader Nabam Tuki had yesterday assumed charge as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh in Arunachal Bhavan at New Delhi.

Amid indications that the outgoing chief minister Kalikho Pul plans to file a review petition, BJP secretary Shrikant Sharma described the Supreme Court verdict as a “strange order; he said: “Much water has flown down in the last seven months”. “It’s a Supreme Court judgement”. Arunachal Pradesh was placed under President’s Rule on 26 January. Everything now will be decided in the State Assembly. However, he referred to Pul as former chief minister. However, BJP had openly encouraged and supported the Congress rebellion.
