London Fire Brigade said that 70 fire-fighters attended the scene in Morden Saturday afternoon with ten fire engines as well as specialist equipment.
The fire is affecting the ground and first floors of the building which includes a mosque and community hall.
Roads have been closed around the area. “Closed for foreseeable future #RoadClosure”.
The mosque, which cost £5.5million when it was built in 2003, covers 5.2 acres.
There were no reports of any other injures, she added.
A London Fire Bridgage spokesman said a call was made at 12.06pm.
No one from the mosque was immediately available for comment today.
A large fire has broken out at a mosque.
Another Twitter user wrote: “May Allah keep everyone at the Baitul-Futuh mosque save”.
An LFB spokesman said it was too early to say what had caused the “large fire”.
