A firefighter was killed while responding to a plane that crash-landed at Dubai airport and became engulfed in fire, the Emirates airline chairman has said.
Our flights to Dubai have been diverted to the following airports – Al Maktoum International Airport, Ras Al Khaimah International Airport and Sharjah International Airport.
The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority, which is leading the investigation, said Thursday it was still working to recover the flight data and cockpit voice recorders.
“Laptop, laptop”, a passenger can be heard saying in the video.
Dubai-based Emirates said the accident happened as Flight EK521 was arriving from the southern Indian city of Thiruvananthapuram.
He claimed during the World Aviation Safety Summit in April that for every minute the airport is shut, the cost to Dubai’s economy is $1m.
The airlines said this was primarily as Dubai airport has announced limited operations up to August 5. The footage posted on the social network show the Boeing 777 bursting into flames and the huge plum of dark smoke coming from the plane.
The video shows the passengers reaching for their luggage before they jump out of the plane.
All 300 passengers and crew were safely evacuated in under 90 seconds.
An Emirates Airline flight bound for Dubai from Thiruvananthapuram in India has crash-landed at Dubai International Airport with almost 300 people on board.
The exact circumstances of the accident, which involved a Boeing 777 flying from India with 300 people on board, were not immediately clear. “Dedicated telephone lines are now active for family members, UAE – 8002111, United Kingdom – 00442034508853, U.S. – 0018113502081”, says the airline.
