Nine Black Lives Matter protesters were detained in a protest that briefly shut down the southbound San Diego Freeway on Wednesday near Century Boulevard in the Westchester area, the California Highway Patrol reported.

A demonstration involving hundreds of people disrupted shopping at the Mall of America and affected travelers moving through the Twin Cities airport on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Wearing masks and armed with batons, police guarded the eastern mall entrance and forced do the protesters back to bus and train stations. He said the protest caused some flight delays but no cancellations. Paul International Airport, where they briefly shut down roadways to both terminals, leading to eight arrests, an airport spokesman said.

The protests, days after rioting and arson in Ferguson, resulted in the arrests of about two dozen people, mostly for trespassing and failure to disperse.

At the protest’s end, the scraggly Unicorn Riot activist is reduced to claiming that the Mall of America protest was a “ruse” and the real protest had been meant for the airport. Authorities say they won’t release it while state and federal investigations are ongoing.

Dozens of stores temporarily closed their gates, kiosks were covered and even Santa left his sleigh shortly before protesters gathered at the massive mall.

At the entrance to the mall Wednesday morning, posters were plastered to doors, informing visitors that the mall is private property and protests are strictly prohibited, and a big video screen in the rotunda warned participants to leave or be arrested.

The protest planned to take place at Mall of America on Wednesday comes after a tense year in Minneapolis.

Dayton said police did not expect protesters to show up at the airport. “If I think about an unemployment rate in the African-American community three times the white unemployment rate, that’s disruptive”.

“There will be no business as usual until we get accountability for our dead, and justice for the living”, the group added.

While police and mall security dispersed that gathering, protesters also went to the Minneapolis-St. The privately owned and operated Mall, which includes an amusement park and more than 500 shops on four floors, is located in the Minneapolis suburb.

When the trains arrived at the Humphrey Terminal station, protesters pushed their way past police officers and airport security guards to gain entry to the Humphrey Terminal.

“Although protests and actions within shopping malls or other spaces have been an issue of legal disputes and requests for injunctions for decades”, she reasoned, the court could not, issue “a broad temporary restraining order enjoining the future acts of unidentified individuals or the public at large”.

The judge did say three organizers were not allowed at the mall.
