A majority of Samsung’s mobile phones are Google Android-based, which is also the dominant OS on most smartphones across the globe.
Samsung Z1 is the first Tizen OS powered smartphone to be released by the company and is presently available in a limited number of markets where it has been well-received, particularly by first time smartphone buyers. According to Reuters, Samsung will launch several new Tizen-powered handsets this year at various price points. Keeping this in mind, Samsung Z1 features an easy to use UI that offers a smooth and fast experience to ensure a seamless migration to smartphones. “It stacks up equal and better with some of its neighbouring models in our portfolio”. Samsung has five models in the sub-$100 price band.
Samsung organised a Tizen app development workshop – Dev Lab in Coimbatore.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Korean manufacturer launches these Tizen backed smartphones in the United States and the European Union, though chances of that happening seem rather bleak at the moment. Samsung must build a Tizen ecosystem, but it’s now hard to justify picking up a Tizen phone over Android. At the same time, we can also expect Tizen to be featured on refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners and even robot cleaners in the coming future.
In the Tizen DevLab initiative, technical experts introduced developers to the Tizen SDK and APIs.

We can’t say for sure if the new contender in the smartphone (OS?) market will be able to run a long way, but one thing’s for certain, Samsung is putting all their possible effort in promoting this new breed of smartphones.
