As a safety precaution, the remaining passengers on the plane were temporarily taken off the plane.
Patton says the detained passengers were rebooked on later flights and no charges were filed against them.
All of the passengers were evacuated from the plane, and three were interviewed by law enforcement, Fox 4 reported.
Asked what constituted suspicious behavior, Patton replied in an e-mail that the passengers have been “unruly”. Southwest said the plane landed safely in Los Angeles about one hour behind schedule.
Meanwhile, the police are continuing to question the three suspects for their behavior on the plane.
Southwest stated in a press release that the crew determined to divert the flight “in response to a number of passengers who didn’t comply with crew instruction upon takeoff and continued to exhibit suspicious behavior in flight”. Again no explosives were found and the flight took off about 10:30 a.m.
