Forecasters say the best chance for thunderstorms is between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., but severe weather could develop in the area north of the M-59 corridor as early as 3 p.m.
Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Toronto, as severe weather from the Barrie area is expected to bring strong wind gusts and “Toonie-size hail” by Sunday evening.
“They also think isolated very large hail up to 2.5” in diameter is possible. Storms will then progress east across Iowa during the overnight hours. Areas to the west and south of Rockford have a lower threat for severe weather, but strong storms are still definitely possible. This watch will likely be extended southwards and eastwards throughout the afternoon as this dynamic thunderstorm situation continues to develop. A second line of severe storms is expected to move through late in the day and will be capable of producing damaging winds, hail and flooding rainfall.
