Severity Of Jason Pierre-Paul’s Fireworks Injuries Unclear To Giants

Pierre-Paul, the 26-year-old ex- first-round pick, reportedly injured his hand while lighting fireworks at his Florida home on Saturday night.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano wrote on Twitter: ‘I am told Pierre-Paul has some burns on one hand and they are checking his fingers for nerve damage but prognosis is not bad.’. ESPN’s Adam Schefter said Pierre-Paul was “still meeting with doctors to determine the severity” of the injury. With the organization having slapped its franchise tag on the Pro Bowler, he hadn’t signed his $14.8 million offer and isn’t under contract.

Pierre-Paul posted two videos to his Instagram account on Saturday that appeared to show him next to a van full of fireworks obtained for holiday celebrations.

Pierre-Paul led the Giants with 12.5 sacks last season and was expected to be their top pass rusher this year as well. However, he hasn’t actually signed the tender so he’s technically not under contract. That is why, no matter what minor thing he and his agent were arguing with the Giants over, maybe in a situation with such a small chance or resolution JPP should have signed his deal.

Pierre-Paul has not attended Giants’ offseason workouts to avoid injury and retain leverage in talks toward a long-term contract. Multiple reports stated the injuries were not considered career-threatening.

Pierre-Paul is not entirely out of the woods, however. Pierre-Paul’s strength is his ability to get after the quarterback and racking up big sack totals.

According to Yahoo Sports, the Giants could withdraw their franchise player tag from Pierre-Paul under terms of the collective bargaining agreement, which requires a player to “establish or maintain his excellent physical condition”. Since then, the Giants have rescinded a long-term, $60 million offer to him, according to NFL’s Ian Rapoport.
