Sevilla vs. Manchester City: Winners and Losers from Champions League Game
Manuel Pellegrini explained the reasons for remodelling Manchester City’s midfield to devastating effect in the 3-1 win over Sevilla. They lie six points ahead of Sevilla and can not be overtaken by the Spanish side. “It’s important for us to finish first in our group because we’ve been unlucky with draws before so we need to make sure we end as group winners”.

“Harty is a phenomenal goalkeeper, we’re lucky to have him”, said the Belgium defender.
Man-of-the match Sterling, with his best performance since his £49 million ($75.54 million) move from Liverpool, ignited City with an eighth minute goal.
City restored their two-goal cushion on 36 minutes, as Navas found Bony with an inviting cross, before the Ivorian striker fired past Rico.
Speaking to Manchester City’s official website, Pellegrini said: ‘I am very happy with the way we played.
Perhaps the greatest compliment of all came from Sevilla boss Unai Emery. A few of our new players still have to adapt to the team but we have to be patient.
“It was probably the best performance we have had in the Champions League so far and the biggest thing to take from the game was we weren’t naïve”.
City were outplayed for long spells by Sevilla, the current Europa League title-holders, at the Etihad Stadium a fortnight ago, but they hit back and won 2-1 with a last-gasp goal from Kevin De Bruyne.
Though City are through to the knockout phase, two matches remain (Juventus away and Monchengladbach at home) and Pellegrini outlined their objective. I am just working hard, trying to score the chances I get and to win the game.
A performance such as the one last time against Sevilla might not be enough this time, and City would have liked their game at home to Norwich City at weekend not to have proved as stressful as it turned out. In the set-up it’s not as desperate. “In England it is undoubted that over the last four or five years we have been amongst the top teams, but in Europe that has not been the case”.

Fernando’s presence allowed Fernandinho to get forward and, after twice going close, he set up the opener for Raheem Sterling and then headed in the second after a Bony shot was saved.
