The health department said it tested several pregnant women who had traveled to countries where the virus is spreading.

Queensland health authorities have started spraying mosquitoes around a Rockhampton hotel after a confirmed case of the imported Zika virus.

In response to the virus outbreak, the CDC is asking ob-gyns to review fetal ultrasounds and do maternal testing for any pregnant woman who has traveled to one of the roughly 30 countries where Zika is active, according to CNN.

Mosquito-borne Zika outbreaks have erupted across most of Latin America and the Caribbean in the previous year. The WHO had previously warned that the virus’s spread could be “explosive”, infecting up to four million people. An estimated 80 per cent of people infected have no symptoms, making it hard for pregnant women to know whether they have been infected. The CDC on Tuesday expanded its Zika travel advisory to two more places – the Marshall Islands, and Trinidad and Tobago. Florida has the highest number of cases at 21. Officials said tests confirmed the women “had a history with the virus”.
