SFPD investigating officer-involved shooting of carjacking suspect near SFO

A police officer in San Francisco shot and wounded a man who allegedly tried to carjack two cars near the city’s airport Sunday. The incident occurred around 7 a.m., local time, police said.

The man got out of the vehicle after the motorist refused to drive and ran to some bushes where he hid, Suhr said. He was shot in the abdomen after refusing to stop his run toward them.

The man then came out of the bushes and walked toward an officer while yelling, “Shoot me, shoot me, shoot me!”

SFPD says the suspect was in a stolen a auto he took from a woman who was running a marathon. He is then shot by the cop in the stomach.

The officer involved was uninjured in the shooting and will be placed on paid leave while the investigation is ongoing as per department’s police, Suhr said.

According to the chief, the suspect is in “serious, but stable” condition at the hospital and will later be interviewed by police.
