“We have three weeks in front of us, out of which two are holidays”. “We know that the film will entertain audiences across all age groups”. The release of Bajirao Mastani has hampered the collection of Dilwale to some extent unlike any other Khan’s film at the box office, yet it has surpassed its rival film releasing the same day leading in a big way. We wanted people to be happy. Technically both the films have worked with its respective target audience but had they arrived solo, the collections would have been more. This in itself speak volumes of the power of good content and the film’s performance. “And frankly, we were perfectly fine with what our multiplex partners allotted us because we got the shows we required”. But considering the mythological angle, “Bajirao Mastani” suffered slightly.
Rohit Shetty’s “Dilwale” starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Bajirao Mastani” with Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. A Bhansali film which could have got 3,500-4,000 screens and earned Rs.50-55 crore made do with 3,050 screens and earnings of Rs. 46 crore.

Dilwale which has been shot in Bulgaria, USA and Ramoji, Film City, Hyderabad, has been made on a budget of Rs 120 Crores. “The grand clash has turned the spotlight on a pertinent reality”. Moreover, the simultaneous release resulted in the number of screens being divided. While the casting of the film affected its opening day footfalls, the reactions after the release of the film only added to these feeling. SRK, who has habitually made a new record with the opening figures of each of his new film lately, could not manage to do so this time. According to the makers of “Bajirao Mastani”, the film collected 12.80 cr on Friday, 15.52cr on Saturday and 18.45 cr on Sunday.
