And now Manafort is apparently on the outs, too – not because of mounting evidence of his intimate involvement with the massively corrupt former regime in Ukraine but because he had been trying to force Trump to act a bit more polished on the campaign trail and stop picking fights with people who aren’t Hillary Clinton.
Bannon quickly began to prepare for a takeover.
All that makes Conway the ideal person to explain to Trump when, how and why his message is misfiring with certain groups. In a statement Wednesday, Breitbart CEO and publisher Larry Solov said Bannon would “perform brilliantly” in his new role as Trump campaign CEO.
But Bannon’s position could make any attempt to smooth relations in Washington hard.
Conway has already sought to add a new dynamic to the campaign.
The campaign said that Manafort will remain in his position as chairman.
Conway and Bannon may prove to be opposing forces in Trump’s campaign. Despite the allegations of favoritism or bias against the network, CNN recently hired former Trump campaign manager, Cory Lewandowski, to serve as a contributor, which was met with criticism from opponents.
