Lowry methodically strolled down the 72nd fairway, after hitting one of the best shots of his career through the trees to within 10 feet of the pin.
It’s only his second victory as a pro overall and comes just five days before the final Major championship of the year, the US PGA.
The day though belonged to Lowry who admitted: “It was great to get the job done because I have been doubting myself a bit this season”.
Shane Lowry, of Ireland, reacts after making a birdie on the second hole, during the final round of the Bridgestone Invitational golf tournament, in Akron, Ohio, Sunday, August 9, 2015.
“I was nervous but played solid and hit some good…and it was good to have a bit of luck on my side too”. The American golfer finished his round on 9 under, leaving Lowry two holes to play to try maintain his one shot lead.
No – it’s Shane Lowry’s golf ball following the most wonderful trajectory.
Minutes later, Lowry sank a 17-foot putt to save par on the same hole to restore his two-shot advantage.
Rose was plagued by a poor performance on the greens, three-putting the long second for par and, after getting back into contention by chipping in on the ninth, also three-putting the 10th from just 15 feet.
Jordan Spieth had set the early clubhouse target on four under after a final round of 66, but that was not going to be enough for the victory which would have seen him jump to world number one. Faced with a tricky lie up against the collar of the rough near the 17th green, he managed to get up-and-down to keep his momentum.

“A whole new world has opened up to Shane, I’m so happy for him”, said McGinley, who pointed out that the Fed Ex Cup and Ryder Cup were now on Lowry’s horizon. “I am certainly ready to be in that position and hopefully we can do so”.
