Her agent, Max Eisenbud, declined to say what the subject of the announcement is.
Sharapova has played just four events since Wimbledon, that due to leg injury which forced her out of the US Open past year and more recently a forearm ailment.
Sharapova has been hampered by injury in the past few months, only featuring in the Australian Open where she lost to Serena Williams in the quarter-finals.
The press conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday in Los Angeles, according to ESPN.
Her withdrawal from Indian Wells is the third time this year she has withdrawn from a tournament because of her forearm injury, having also missed tournaments in Brisbane and Doha.
Sharapova is a five-time major champion and has won 35 total singles titles.
She has numerous business interests off the court, including a very successful apparel collection. Sharapova’s endorsements include Nike and Canon and she’s appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

It’s believed that the 28-year-old could announce her retirement from the sport when she speaks at 8pm GMT tomorrow after a number of injuries have prevented her from playing regularly for several years, and she has only played in three events in the last eight months. She isn’t one to bring attention to herself this way – at least about her tennis career.
