Tournament organizers said the Russian, who has not played since Wimbledon where she lost to World No. 1 Serena Williams, is suffering from a right leg strain.

The five-time Grand Slam victor has failed to add to her tally this season with her best result coming at the Australian Open where she was a beaten finalist to Williams.

The hardcourt tournament is one of several tune-up events leading into the US Open, where Williams will be attempting to complete a calendar year sweep of all four tennis Grand Slam events. Her next scheduled tournament is the Cincinnati Masters, which begins on August 17.
