Eli Zawadski (18) was released from Peel Health Campus last night and admitted to the plastic surgery unit at Fiona Stanley Hospital.

His Mother, Eleni, said her son needed to stay in hospital on intensive antibiotics for a few days, but was expected to make a full recovery.

The Department of Fisheries is investigating and has closed Pyramid Beach until morning.

The Western Australian Government trialled a shark cull program in 2014, using baited drum lines off popular beaches to catch sharks.

The attack near Mandurah marks the first shark attack on West Australian beaches in 2015. The last fatal shark attack in WA was on 29 December, when 17-year-old Jay Muscat was fatally bitten by a great white shark while spearfishing near Albany, on the south coast.
