Shark Bites Woman on Ankle Off Central Florida Beach

She was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center for treatment.

“She was about waist deep in the water when she got bit on the ankle”. It was not immediately known what type of shark bit the woman. The species of the shark has not been determined as of yet.

A video posted by a Twitter user who was in the area also showed a shark moving in the waters of the beach. It is embedded below.

Brevard officials have responded to at least five shark bites in 2015. Seventy two attacks were reported internationally previous year. There, a 19-year-old teen was attacked by a shark.

Shark sightings continued in Cocoa Beach throughout the day after the incident which prompted lifeguards to fly red flags at their towers for a brief amount of time after each sighting. The girl was visiting Florida from Ohio.

Meanwhile, there has been a rise in the number of shark attacks in Hawaii of late.

Colin Cook was straddling his board with both legs dangling in the water on October 9 when the 10- to 12-foot shark latched onto his lower leg, media reports said.
