Sharks Beat Flyers in Overtime

With any kind of offense, they get two points and not one in this overtime loss. “And we went through that”.

“We needed a good road trip”, coach Peter DeBoer said. “We haven’t scored, but it’s coming”.

“We went through a tough stretch there. But the group stuck with it”. The Flyers had given up at least one power play goal in their last four games. The Sharks have kicked off the lengthy trek with three straight one-goal victories and look to win four in a row for the first time since opening the season with a four-game run.

Martin Jones had varying degrees of offensive support throughout the first half of the Sharks’ six-game road trip, and he used every little bit to pick up three straight wins. After the initial flurry, he had a pretty uneventful evening, facing 11 shots the rest of the game (including overtime). The Flyers successfully killed off the Sharks’ fourth power play of the night and the play was switched over to three-on-three at the next whistle.

The Sharks’ road trip has been a very successful one so far. “That’s my responsibility first and foremost is to take the shot”. You do everything you can to get across if the pass is able to get through the defender. He again looks like the goalie that was the talk of the National Hockey League in the season’s first week, and he’ll nearly certainly be back between the pipes for the next game on Saturday against the Penguins, too. They outshot the Sharks (11-8), 34-21 overall, including 28-11 over the last 40 minutes, plus overtime.

They have scored just 15 goals in 10 home games.

There were chances to take the lead multiple times.

The Sharks got their second power play when Wayne Simmonds was called for hooking 3:08 into the third period. Claude Giroux, who assisted on the Gostisbehere goal, later put Philadelphia ahead 2-1 with a third-period tally. They got another 30 at Martin Jones, but the goalie stopped all of them. I did everything I could to keep us in the game whenever there were chances. I thought we played a good game. “That’s what happens when you don’t score”.

There weren’t many quality scoring chances which implies when one does arise, as it did with Voracek in the second period, you need to capitalize.

“The more you play, the more comfortable you’re going to be in the net”, Jones said. Although the Kings are better defensively while the Sharks are a little more potent offensively, both clubs have a lot of size in the lineup and use it effectively.

“Tonight I did everything I could to keep us in the game whenever they had chances, but at the end of the day, when the goals aren’t coming for us, you just have to bear down and focus on your own job”. Pavelski leads the Sharks with 10 goals, 18 points, a plus-10 rating and leads all forwards with 20:16 of total ice time per game. But, still, without a scoring punch, they’re leaving points on the ice, which is especially frustrating in their own building, where they haven’t won since October 24.

“We try to score goals but we got to be patient”, said Jakub Voracek. “Sometimes, it doesn’t work out that way”. You have to get timely contributions at different points from everybody. The effort was there.

The Sharks have played well of late, finding different ways to win on their trek thus far.

Soon enough, those positives will have to turn into wins.
