The Sharks had lost all four OT games they’d played in this post-season. Either Zubrus or Melker Karlsson will replace Hertl to the wing on the top line with Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski. For the first time this postseason, San Jose came away with an overtime victory. This is the sixth time since expansion in 1968 that the first three Stanley Cup finals games were all decided by one goal. He scored the Sharks’ only goal in Game 2.
Joel Ward has the San Jose Sharks right back in the game – and maybe the series.
“After a goal goes in, you can’t take it out of the net, you can’t take it off the scoreboard, you move on”, he said.
“(DeBoer) told me to wait a couple shifts”, Couture said. But they still have not had the lead during a game as the entire series has either been played tied or with the Penguins ahead.
The Penguins hold a 2-0 lead in this best-of-seven series. “I think we’re in a good spot here heading forward”. The Sharks were 5-for-5 in games 1 and 2, having killed three penalties in Game 1, two in Game 2 and one through two periods of Game 3.
For the second straight game, theSan Jose SharksandPittsburgh Penguinswent to overtime.
The Sharks struck back at even strength when Braun settled a Joe Thornton pass and, from the blue line, wristed a rolling puck over a diving Hornqvist and through a screen to beat Murray at 9:34.Karlsson and trailing Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang impaired Murray’s vision on the goal.
Donskoi ended up coming through and scored one of the biggest goals in Sharks history on a pretty sweet play.
Braun stopped a sliding puck with his left skate for a ideal ricochet to his stick before snapping a shot past Penguins goalie Matt Murray, who didn’t move until the puck was in the back of the net.
Joel Ward skated into the Pittsburgh Penguins zone in the third period Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final and made a decision to shoot the puck.
“The puck either rolled or it hit something and it just went off the side of my head and just snuck by”, he said.
The Sharks still face slim odds even after Saturday’s thrilling win.
Thornton had at least two more good chances to score, rounding out an impactful Game 3 performance following two quiet games to start the series. Sheary made the key play by getting the puck deep in the zone for the Penguins.
The Penguins are enjoying the leadership of superstar Sidney Crosby in the past two games.
One the Penguins hope to ride to two more wins and their fourth Stanley Cup in 25 years.
