Shaw: Community Shield can ‘kick-start season’

Ibrahimovic, who collected his first trophy as a United player by scoring the winning goal over Leicester in the Community Shield on Sunday, has heaped praise on the club after making just his second appearance in the famous red shirt. The Swedish star’s strike takes The National’s sports cover for Monday, August 8, 2016.

Leicester talisman Jamie Vardy had earlier punished an error by Marouane Fellaini to cancel out FA Cup match-winner Jesse Lingard’s first-half solo goal for United, who claimed a record-extending 21st Community Shield.

Hopes are Mourinho will continue his success in the Premier League and help get the club back to their former glory days after disappointing tenures under van Gaal and David Moyes. In addition to the win, it finally looks as though the Paul Pogba transfer is ready to be completed.

The opportunity to secure their 21st Community Shield was handed to the side by van Gaal, having won the FA Cup last season, and after the game Mourinho dedicated the win to the Dutch coach.

“I enjoy and watched the same team as last season, only the result is against us”. We worked hard and it’s great to win a trophy. I’m super happy. Hopefully I can win much more than this. “Before the match I asked for 120 per cent and they gave me 120 per cent”. “The first official game, we play for a trophy and we win”.

“I have my career, he has his career”, Mourinho said, in comments published by several British newspapers on Sunday. “It is impossible, but I want to win every game”.

“So we are changing the principles of play and that takes team”. Our team has something big going on, it’s a good start. You can see they’re a strong team.

He said: “I think we said it a year ago as well, a club like Manchester United always wants to play for titles. We begin with a trophy”.
