Sheena Bora, daughter of Indrani Mukerjea. Rai, now lodged in Arthur Road Jail had, in an application on May 11, told the court he wanted to “disclose all the truths” in the murder plot.
The CBI had given its no-objection to Rai being made an approver with the condition that he makes a full disclosure as a prosecution witness.
Special Judge H.S. Mahajan, while granting the pardon, instructed Rai to speak the truth about the entire episode. Rai also told the court that she wants to disclose all truths and is not under any pressure to do so.
Shyamvar Rai was the first accused to be arrested in the case in August 2015, taking the lid off the murder, after he was picked up in connection with an arms case.
Last year, Rai had recorded his confessional statement before the magistrate under the provisions of Section 164, which unlike the police statement, is admissible in the trial.
She was 24 at the time of her murder on April 24, 2012.
The case came to light after Rai was nabbed for possessing a weapon illegally past year by the Khar police. “Evidence of the applicant would be of enormous importance and assistance to the prosecution’s case”.
While former media baron Peter was arrested in November 2015 for hiding and destroying evidences in this case, Indrani and two others were arrested by the police in August 2015 and they continue to be in custody since. Rai later led the CBI team to the exact site where Sheena’s body was dumped. “This being the position, I find merit in the applicant as well as (the) stand of prosecution in the matter”.

Peter, a co-accused in the case, had earlier in March moved a fresh bail plea before a special CBI court, calling the allegations levelled against him as “false, baseless and unbelievable”.
