Sheffield Wednesday sign ex-Celtic striker Gary Hooper on loan

Hooper nearly moved to Hillsborough earlier this season, but the move reportedly fell through after the club failed to include a VIP box for the striker’s friends and family.

Following his unveiling to the media at the club’s Middlewood Road Training Ground, Hooper was quick to deny that story: “That’s not true”.

“The move didn’t happen because Norwich said they needed me”. I’m just happy to be here now. “We are winning because we are doing very good team work”.

Speaking about why he let Hooper leave the Canaries for the Owls, Neil said: “I have Lewis Grabban, Cameron Jerome, Kyle and (Dieumerci) Mbokani”.

“Carlos [Carvalhal] told me he has been after me since day one and wants to play a high pressing game”, Hooper told The Star.

Hooper, formerly of Scunthorpe United, could make his debut in Saturday’s home clash against Nottingham Forest.

“Hooper gives us more alternative options because he can play behind the lines unlike a typical number ten”.

The Englishman netted 12 goals in 34 games last season as Norwich regained promotion back to the Premier League via the play-offs within a year of relegation. He has quality and characteristics that can increase the value in our team.

“We have signed another top, top striker”, he said. “Gary has proved his worth”.

Owls will travel to Stoke City on Tuesday, December 1, for their Capital One Cup quarter-final clash. “Week after week two were getting left out of the squad completely”. Gary wanted to play a few football and I see those other guys ahead of him in terms of the style of football I want to play.
