The U.S. National Weather Service has issued a “red-flag” warning for the eastern part of Washington state through Friday, with strong winds up to 72 kilometers an hour and thunderstorms expected.

“I was more proud of him than I could ever express”, said his mother Jennifer through tears.

In California, suffering its worst drought on record, about 2,500 people were forced to flee Christian summer camps east of Fresno at Hume Lake as the so-called Rough Fire crossed Highway 180, officials said. I see sprinklers going all through town.

Battling fires was a family affair for the Zbyszewski’s.

Authorities have released the names of the three firefighters who were killed when they were overrun by flames in Washington state.

Murray broke the news about 20-year-old Tom Zbyszewski (buh-CHEV’-skee) to students and staff in an email.

Given the deaths of the firefighters, Goldmark said people shouldn’t undertake “heroic” acts just to save buildings.

“They always took safety to heart”. Fire managers wouldn’t let him go home even after his shift was over because they are so scared of the winds and everything that is happening that they want to keep everyone close in case of emergency.

Four other firefighters were injured, including one who was fighting for his life on Thursday. “They were both high-quality scientists in my lab, but more importantly high-quality people”.

He suggested residents “thank a firefighter”.

This year’s toll also is the highest since 2013, when 34 wildland firefighters were killed nationwide, including 19 members of an elite “hotshots” team in Arizona.

Daniel Lyon, age 25, was injured and is being treated at Harborview Hospital in Seattle. It is 38 percent contained.

It was separate from a nearby fire known as the Okanogan Complex, which grew to nearly 31,000 acres with only 20 percent containment. We can not treat them like experienced crews. We do not have the resources.

“It’s all burning, and we don’t have the resources available”, Rodriguez said. “We have to put that out of our minds so we can focus on the fire”.

In much of the Western United States, firefighters are shouldering similar burden, as about 80 wildfires – as small as a few dozen acres to larger than 100,000 acres – are now burning from Alaska to Oregon, Idaho to Montana, according to Inciweb.

The Rocky Fire burned almost 70,000 acres, or 109 square miles, in Lake, Yolo and Colusa Counties over 16 days until August 14.

The last time the U.S. asked for help from Australia and New Zealand was in 2008.

“The firefighters were engaged in initial attack operations and were involved in a vehicle accident when it is believed that the fire overtook the vehicle”, said the statement from Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, relaying information from Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers.

Meanwhile, the Forest Service has called in reinforcements to the Twisp fire, Forest Service spokeswoman Shoshona Pilip-Florea said.
