AUSTIN, Texas A Travis County, Texas, sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed on Monday after reporting to the department’s dispatcher that a suspected robbery was in progress at his suburban Austin house, officials said. Hamilton added Hutchinson had 32 years of experience and was planning to retire in September. According to the station, Hutchinson called the Texas Department of Public Safety at around 1:22 a.m. when he saw the suspects running around his backyard.

Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton said, “There was equipment that was stolen or taken from the shed”.
Hamilton reflected on the life of the deputy, noting that Hutchinson was his field training officer.
Round Rock Police tell KXAN they are asking people in the neighborhood to stay inside their homes.
Round Rock police are taking lead on the investigation, and there is still an active search for the suspect.
Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said via Twitter: “Please keep our Travis County Sheriff’s family in your thoughts and prayers”.
“That guy was a big teddy bear”, Hamilton said. Hamilton said a tip line has been established for anyone with information, at 512-671-2767. Authorities could be seen working in the area around the home.
McNeil Road was closed while police investigated the scene.
He drove back to Travis County and got to Round Rock Hospital just as Hutchinson’s body was being transferred to the vehicle that would take him to the Medical Examiner’s Office on 12th and Sabine Street, where he was delivered shortly after 7am this morning.
