Sheriff’s Deputy shot and killed in St. Cloud hospital

He was Tased by responding security personnel and also died, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension officials confirmed.

Hammond was at the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during a domestic incident. “After he was taken into custody he became unresponsive”.

– An investigator with the Aitkin County sheriff’s department was shot and killed by a patient he was guarding at St. Cloud Hospital after the patient wrangled his gun away early Sunday morning.

During the struggle, the suspect managed the wrestle the deputy’s gun away from him and shot him.

Security officers subdued Hammond by using a Taser. Evans said more information about the cause of Hammond’s death would be available after an autopsy.

The incident was confined to the suspect’s hospital room and no patients or personnel were injured.

The incident was contained to Hammond’s hospital room on the 5th floor of the building.

He said investigators had a lot of work ahead of them, including interviewing hospital staffers who were on duty at the time. All the convictions were for crimes committed in Aitkin County.

The suspect was identified as Danny Leroy Hammond, 50, who lived near the city of Aitkin.

‘On behalf of all Minnesotans, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, ‘ he said in a statement, according to Fox.
