A 28-year-old MS native with a lengthy criminal record and previous accusations of domestic violence has been accused of a mass murder in Citronelle, Alabama on August 20.

Between 1:15 a.m and daylight, authorities say Dearman returned to the home, unlawfully entered the property and attacked the victims while they slept.

Hours after the killings, Dearman walked into the Green County sheriff’s department “stating that he had killed someone or more than one person in Citronelle, Alabama”, McLeod said in a statement.

He kidnapped Lester and a three-month-old child who belonged to one of the victims and drove them to his father’s home in MS, police said. Both of them were found alive.

The police said it could take investigators days to sort out the grisly murder scene in Citronelle, a small town 30 miles northwest of Mobile.

The Mobile Sheriff released a report on the murders, committed by 27-year-old Derrick Dearman, on Twitter.

His ex-wife, Crystal Dearman, told television station WALA that she divorced him in 2013 after years of abuse, which she said he inflicted upon both her and their children.

Later that night, police said, Dearman returned to the house and attacked the occupants while they were sleeping, using multiple weapons, including guns.

Burch said he expects Dearman to be charged with “five or six counts of capital murder”.

According to Capt. Paul Burch of the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, another baby, this time, four-months-old was found unharmed inside the house.

“She was trying to be fearless and leave and it just set him off”, Crystal Dearman said. Five counts stem from the killing of the adults, and the additional count is because one of the slaying victims, 22-year-old Chelsea Marie Reed, was 5 months pregnant, Myles said.

Dearman rode to his father’s home in MS, where he left the two survivors.

After arriving at the home, Dearman released Lester and the baby, and he and his father went to a local sheriff’s office to turn himself in. “He’s made threats the entire time we were together and after we separated”. Prosecutors said he was angry because he thought they were trying to keep him away from her.
