Sheriff says 4 soldiers among Missouri flood victims

Intense rain and flooding are expected across much of the state Monday, along with snow and freezing rain in the northern part of Missouri. Some areas have reported local flooding from heavy rains overnight and the previous week.

Cancellations, delays at Gerald R. Ford airport
Most cancellations can be attributed to the icy conditions and flights not leaving Sunday night, according to officials. Southwest’s flight 4027, Delta’s 3968, American’s 4403 and United’s 1127 and 3528 all were cancelled this morning.

The combination of rain-filled clouds and plummeting temperatures meant a “life-threatening and crippling blizzard” was headed toward the Texas panhandle, the National Weather Service said.

A range of precipitation was forecast on Monday for the country’s midsection, including heavy snow, ice and blustery winds in parts of 11 states and heavy rain in already waterlogged parts of Missouri and Arkansas. The weather service said damage indicated it was probably an EF-3 tornado, which has winds up to 165mph.


Cold, rainy weather headed to Central Texas
Here in Graham, the National Weather Service predicts a high on Saturday of 63, but by Sunday, the high is expected to be only 36. The temperatures should start warming up into the 40s on Tuesday, but the lows will continue to dip below freezing.

“Widespread flooding and continued rainfall are causing very unsafe conditions across much of central and southern Missouri”, Nixon said in a statement.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is reporting 453 flood-related road closings throughout Missouri, including Interstate 70 in both directions in St. Charles County.

Nearby Garland was also hit by a tornado that killed eight people and left 15 injured.

Hunter says that from midnight Saturday to early Sunday afternoon there were 104 water rescues in the county.

He said Monday morning that he’d been sitting on the icy interstate since 8 p.m. Sunday and that “everybody’s just sleeping in their cars”.

He declared disasters in Dallas, Collin, Rockwall and Ellis counties.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol told KYTV that authorities on Sunday also recovered the body of a driver from a creek in Greene County.

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Warning for the Mississippi River in the Mid-South. Albuquerque, New Mexico, has received about 6 inches of snow.

South Arkansas under flash flood watch for heavy rainfall
