“I woke up to him holding a knife to my throat in bed with my baby in the crib”, said Dearman, who said the two divorced in 2010. “He’s always had a temper, especially when he doesn’t get his way”.

According to a statement from the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office obtained by PEOPLE, the girlfriend, Laneta Lester, told investigators she’d been trying to break up with 27-year-old Derrick Dearborn for a while and was staying at a relative’s house in Citronelle, Alabama, which was the scene of the killings.

Authorities say late Saturday evening, Dearman refused extradition and was transported to George Regional Jail due to overcrowding at the Greene County facility and to be segregated from other inmates.

It wasn’t immediately clear who was related to Lester or what Dearman’s relationship was to the slain. Both were later found alive.

Officials have indicated he will face six counts of capital murder.

Authorities said following the murders, Dearman forced Lester and the infant of Turner and Randall into a vehicle and drove them to MS to his father’s home where he later released them.

Dearman is a resident of Greene County.

Dearman, who will be extradited to Mobile County, is now in a maximum security facility in George County.

Aside from the connection through Lester, Dearman’s connection to the victims has not been confirmed.

Derrick Dearman, accused of committing multiple murders in Citronelle on Saturday, is being brought back to Mobile today, according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.

Court documents said the “unborn child was a “person” for purposes of capital murder and death penalty satuses”.

After the killings, Dearman forced Lester and a 3-month-old identified by relatives as the child of Randall and Turner into a vehicle, and they drove to Dearman’s father’s house in Mississippi.

WAFF reports that the victims are, clockwise from left, Chelsea Marie Reed, 22; Justin Kaleb Reed, 23; Joseph Adam Turner, 26; Shannon Melissa Randall, 35; and Robert Lee Brown, 26. The additional murder count is because 22-year-old Chelsea Marie Reed was five months pregnant, Myles said.

Around 1 a.m. Saturday, someone inside the home called 911 and reported that Dearman was on the property, the statement said. He has not entered a plea, and it was unknown Monday whether Dearman has legal representation who could comment on his behalf. “That stress is nearly too much to bare with one loved one, as we’re facing burying two”. “He’s made threats the entire time we were together and after we separated”.
