Jace was convicted of second-degree murder, an intentional killing that was not premeditated, in May. She was married to Michael Jace for nine years and they had two sons, who were 8 and 5 at the time of her death.

“There is absolutely no justification for my actions on that night”, Jace told his wife’s family members in court. His attorney, Jamon Hicks, told jurors that Jace shot his wife in the heat of passion, that he “snapped”.

Jace admitted to the May 2014 murder, telling law enforcement officials he killed his wife after finding out she was planning on leaving him. “All I meant to do was shoot her in the leg”.

“I was just angry”, Jace said.

He then called police and reported that he had shot his wife, prosecutors said.

Jace will be able to address the judge before he’s sentenced, as will the family of his wife, April Jace.

In an audio-recorded interview played for the jury, Jace told police that he was holding the gun when his wife returned home from a baseball game with their sons but that she didn’t immediately notice the firearm.
