Shikhar Dhawa, Kane Williamson ensure Sunrisers Hyderabad victory against Delhi

Rishabh Pant’s fantastic innings makes him the top candidate for tonight’s “Batsman of the Match”. Siddarth Kaul and Rashid Khan have 13 wickets, while Shakib Al Hasan has added 10 wickets to his 158 runs. A few teams tend to bring out their best in the final stages of the tournament, whereas others end up undoing their good work in the league stage. It was fearless, dynamic and ornated with some outrageous shots.

While Shreyas has aggregated 351 runs at a strike rate of 149.36 (four fifties), Pant has 393 runs to his name this season with three half-centuries.

Delhi were in serious trouble after losing their openers and Iyer early.

Latest Update: Rishabh Pant has really played a blinder here, this pitch is not the best for strokeplay but he showed patience and stayed put. Alex Hales goes for 14 runs in the second over. He remained unbeaten on 128 off just 63 balls, the highest individual score of IPL 2018, taking his team’s total to 187. Later on, Rishabh Pant was involved in run-outs of DD skipper Shreyas Iyer and Shreyas Patel that helped the visitors get back into the game. Brendon McCullum’s contribution of 71.17% – he scored 158 in Kolkata Knight Riders’ 222 for 3 – against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the inaugural IPL match is the highest percentage of runs by a batsman in a completed IPL innings. In his whole innings he scored 83 runs in 53 an hit 2sixes while 8 fours.

Kane Williamson and Shikar Dhawan registered a record partnership of 176 runs for the second wicket and made the team chase the total easily. It has taken pressure off Shikhar Dhawan, who has taken on the anchor role.

The batting of SRH is not known to be particularly good. There are a lot of things that we need to improve like fielding, game awareness, even batting or bowling can be further improved. Hyderabad defeated Delhi thanks to some power hitting from Pathan in a chase that went down the wire.

Williamson didn’t attack from the onset.

I’ve described Kane Williamson in glowing terms and the 5/2 favourite tag here is the sensible play.

The Sunrisers are playing as well as they ever have in the IPL.

By now, Delhi had lost all hopes of a comeback as the Sunrisers duo handsomely outbatted the efforts of the hosts with seven balls to spare.

What’s next for the teams? They still have three games remaining at home, with the one against RCB being next on May 10. Their only two defeats have come against Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings.
