Joost Luiten moved into second place with a six-under 66, including an eagle two and six birdies in eight holes before bogeys at the fifth and eighth pegged the Dutchman back.
Rising stars Paul Dunne of Ireland and Brandon Stone of South Africa were three shots further back on seven under par after a three under 69 and a two under 70, respectively.
Shinkwin was one of the players who managed to complete his second round on Friday and none of those who returned this morning could reduce his three-shot overnight lead.
He showed no signs of fatigue, though, and birdied the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 16th with an eagle on the 17th to get into a five-way tie for second at nine under.
More than five hours of play had been lost due to two separate thunderstorms, meaning the second round would not be completed on schedule, with 12 groups not even getting their rounds under way.
He has also made five cuts out of seven events on tour this year. “I like heavy rough so that’s good for me”, he added. “I was the last man out on the range and the putting green and then it all kickstarted from there”. “I three-putted the par-three the hole before so I was lucky to get it back – and more”.
“I just played great today”.
He was 8 under for his round after 13 holes and held a share of the lead at Genzon Golf Club but two late bogeys stalled his momentum.
” I’m happy, but felt like I left a couple shots out there after the last break”, Luiten said.
