Video of the incident – recorded by the deceased photog – showed the gunman opening fire as he walked toward the reporter – 24-year-old Alison Parker and Adam Ward… the 27-year-old photog for WDBJ.
“She was so dedicated to just getting the story”, said Jenkins, who noted that Parker regularly returned to campus to train and give career advice to the university’s journalism students. An anchor for the station, Chris Hurst, confirmed on Twitter he was Parker’s boyfriend, posting a tribute to her. “We have other members of the team with us today holding back tears, frankly”, Marks said.
Both were from WDBJ7 viewing area.
Police are searching for the shooter and the incident is now under investigations.
WDBJ spokesman Mike Morgan says 27-year-old Ward was engaged to a producer at the station, Melissa Ott.
He also tweeted about the second victim, Mr Ward, saying that Ms Parker “worked with Adam every day”.
The video then cuts to a stunned reporter in the WBDJ station, who tries to quickly carry on with a broadcast. About 50 people work there, Marks said.
Mr Hurst described the TV station as a family, tweeting: “I am comforted by everyone at @WDBJ7”.
As they talk, about seven shots ring out, as Parker and the woman scream and take cover.
Parker started working at WDBJ (Channel 7) in Roanoke in May 2014.

Ward graduated from Salem High School and Virginia Tech, according to WDBJ. “I can’t tell you one thing”. As the camera fell to the ground, the audience got the briefest glimpse of a man who appeared to pointing a gun toward the downed cameraman.
