Shonda has stated recently that she has already planned how the show will end, which is sort of a unusual thing to say unless she knows that it will be ending sooner rather than later.

Swiftly, Spencer corrected her error on the show by acknowledging Rhimes.
It’s certainly an interesting apology, since Spencer does a good job here of keeping the Gladiator fans all on her side as they prepare for the final season to start next year.

After Shonda tweeted that this would NOT be the final season Scandal, Lara got back on the air and apologized for what she said.

Is “Scandal” season 6 going to be the show’s last? “You know like the Clinton Foundation or the Carter Center”, said Goldwyn, adding that Fitz will definitely be involved in trying to influence public policy.
For a long time now, Rhimes has said that she’s had an ending in mind for “Scandal” whenever it does wrap up for good.

Production for Scandal’s sixth season, which will air in early 2017, began earlier this week. “At the end of the table read.I was just like, ‘Can I just stop and say how awesome it is to have this job?’ and everyone’s like, ‘Yeah, this is better than high school'”.
