Liverpool’s American owners, Fenway Sports Group, are ready to back Jurgen Klopp’s plans in the summer transfer market with Marco Reus a player he wants, according to reports from The Mirror.

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva will miss the Premier League game against Manchester City after sustaining a muscular injury in Sunday’s League Cup final defeat by the same opponents, manager Juergen Klopp said on Tuesday.

Discussing the fitness of Mamadou Sakho, who left the field with a head injury during the first half at Wembley, Klopp added: “We had to make a decision on the sideline and it was the right one, but I have heard nothing on other effects”. I can’t say ‘I can trust him, I can’t trust him’.

Klopp also said he hopes for a resolution on Jon Flanagan’s contract with the full-back’s current deal due to expire at the end of the season. After this long time out injured you always have to be careful and that is not too easy for Flanno because he has a lot of qualities but patience is not one and he has really had to be patient.

“We’ll try to think about it Monday and we will make a better analysis”. That is not how life or football is.

“We plan for next season, but it’s not about that we have to be the first in every moment”, he said.

Klopp said he saw positives in the performance at Wembley, despite the likes of Jamie Carragher criticising their display.

“You have to wait a few more hours, I have to wait a few more hours and then we will know more – and then you will see the line-up tomorrow”. “He’s old enough, he’s experienced enough and we have to go through it together”. “We created a few chances, not enough with the possession, but a few”.
