Police have shot a man armed with a knife near a busy shopping centre at Hornsby on Sydney’s upper north shore, while three other people have been injured.

The incident unfolded at the Hornsby Organic Food Markets in the city’s north with police confronting the man, reported missing from a psychiatric center, after being alerted by staff.
The 54-year-old, who watched the police shooting take place, said: ‘The bullets hit him but he kept on walking.
Police say they did not know what caused the confrontation.
One witness, who was grazed by shrapnel, said police did the right thing when they shot the knifeman.
Officers approached the man and a confrontation broke out, he said.
“[He] didn’t seem normal and that’s why I called the police, because he was holding a knife.”.
Helen Wong, from the nearby Pho Ngon Restaurant, said she could see bodies and blood on the ground and that police had cordoned off the area.
Police are calling for witnesses to come forward and are not looking for any other offenders.
A police officer is heard apologizing to one of the women.
“I saw some people running and I just had a look”.
Police said a Critical Incident Team would investigate the circumstances around the shooting.
“Everyone involved deserves a far more independent review”.
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Denis Clifford speaks after the incident, said that they have identified him as a 23-year-old Jerry Sourian. “Then they shot him down”. “We will provide updates as we receive additional information”, the centre said.
Mr Yeom said the shopping centre had shut down with the entrance closed and all shoppers evacuated. They separated and Ms Pilapil successfully applied to have an AVO in place against him months before the attack took place.

He said the shooting happened next to the fountain in the middle of the shopping centre precinct. He was wounded several times, and three women were also hurt.
