Shooting in Baltimore, ‘multiple’ people injured

Baltimore police said that eight people – including a 3-year-old girl – were injured Saturday evening in a shooting in the area of Greenount Avenue and Preston Street. John Wachter says the man who died was the driver of a auto that police stopped while searching for robbery suspects. But the statement only said there were “multiple victims injured” and gave no immediate details of what happened. He added that the 3-year-old girl and her father were standing a slight distance away from the others and that the child was not an intended target.

A police spokesman said they were seeking three armed suspects who fled on foot.

Other victims were a woman and the rest were men.

Police told CBC’s local affiliate WJZ TV that at least three people were sent to local hospitals.

The shooting occurred on Saturday night just a block from where the city held a party earlier in the day for a special event.

Police Commissioner Kevin Davis could be seen at the site, talking with detectives. Police said the attack was unrelated to the party in which the city dedicated a project called Open Works, billed as an innovative work space.
