Shooting reported at North Carolina church

A man and officers exchanged fire in a stand-off after the lone gunman opened fired outside a Waynesville church.

Heidi Warren said when deputies arrived, they found one man inside Maple Grove Baptist Church.

The pastor of the church tells FOX Carolina that the suspected shooter was not a church member. His condition is not known.

He said he spoke by phone with people living near the church, and they said multiple shots were fired.

According to WLOS.com in Asheville, It happened on Wednesday afternoon around 3:15 p.m. Haywood County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt.

Several agencies responded to the scene, including the SBI. No law enforcement officer was injured.

Dispatchers said law enforcement, EMS and deputies were on scene and that Stamey Cove Road is closed.

The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into a shooting involving law enforcement officers near Canton.

No officers were injured but Emergency Medical Services were called to offer help to the suspect.
