The owner of a deli where teenager Paige Doherty was last seen alive spoke about the missing teen hours before his shop was searched.

On Tuesday March 22, police confirmed Paige had been murdered. Neither of the owners was at the scene during the search.

A teenager was due to catch the bus to her hairdressing job when her life was “brutally” taken away, murder detectives said.

Her bus stop in East Barns Street is a few minutes’ walk away.

Police Scotland say the body, found in a wooded area of the town, has not been formally identified.

Paige’s body was found dumped in bushes in Clydebank and police have said they are treating the case as murder.

The detective said he is “open to all motives” for the assault.

“Paige was a very independent young lady, who would routinely make her way to work during the weekend over to Kirkintilloch from Clydebank, taking a bus into Glasgow City Centre on to Kirkintilloch”.

In a statement on the Police Scotland website, Senior Investigating officer Detective Superintendent Duncan Sloan said additional patrols would take place in the area to reassure residents.

Police have appealed for help in tracing Paige’s last movements.

‘Despite the progress that is being made, I would like to take this opportunity to ask the local community of Clydebank again for their assistance in helping us piece together Paige’s movements between Saturday 19 March and Monday 21 March.

The schoolgirl, who was 4ft 8ins and slim, with long dark hair, was wearing a dark jacket, jeans and white Nike trainers when she went missing.

The last confirmed sighting of her was at 8.20am on Saturday.

Specialist forensic officers had been searching the Fleming Avenue deli on Thursday.

Posting on Facebook, the teenager’s mother wrote: “We are absolutely devastated, as many people who know her will be xxx”.
