Cyber Monday and Black Friday bring corporate businesses big bucks but what do they do for small businesses who can’t afford blowout sales? It’s all part of the national Small Business Saturday campaign.

What’s special about Small Business Saturday is that it separates businesses like the Bleu Frog from larger retailers, making the gifts you buy more unique in a sense that you can’t get them just anywhere.

Robbie Hales, Co-owner of The Liberty Store says the local businesses give their all to make sure they have good customer service and keep customers coming back.

According to the Small Business Administration, last year, across the country, shoppers spent an estimated $14.3 billion.

“You’ll find unique things, things that I’ve picked out personally”.

Like many small businesses the Curiosity Shop is offering shopping incentives.

“We come and spend time with family”.

The event starts with a champagne brunch at The Padre Hotel, followed by shopping at 17 local downtown stores, and ends with more champagne and a drawing at the Marriott Hotel.

Local and state leaders are also participating to show their support.

“People are making more of an effort to shop locally, and we’ve been really pleased with that”.

“It’s less busy”, Darby said.
