Shoppers encouraged to shop local on Small Business Saturday

Its goal is simply to encourage people to support their local businesses, the ones that help bring people into smaller downtown areas day in and day out.

American Express launched the campaign nationally to get people to patronize local businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving – between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Share it on social media with the hashtags #BBB and #ShopSmall and tell the world why you love small businesses. “Supporting us, supports them”, said Gallagher.

So avoid those crowded malls, and head out to shop in a place you can really call home – your local downtowns!

As Neighborhood Champion for Joliet, Joliet Downtown Partnership is in charge of distributing “swag” promoting the day.
