Shoppers search for ‘Prime Day’ deals

Last year’s Prime Day was plagued with complaints about deals on things that “nobody really wanted” or deals that sold out too quickly. And it’s finally here!

Last year’s Prime Day left Amazon shoppers feeling a little cool after it became apparent that a lot of the items on sale were more niche items rather than the doorbuster sales you usually see on Black Friday.

BGC Partners analyst Colin Gillis said the glitch potentially indicated a flood of demand for products on Amazon.

Browse other e-retailers. Last year, the buzz around Amazon Prime compelled other retailers to host online events of their own.This week, for instance, Walmart is offering free shipping with no min. However, if you want to bag yourself a bargain, you can always sign yourself up to Amazon’s 30-day free trial and then cancel before you’re billed the £79-a-year. Time Magazine noted in the lead-up to Prime Day that Amazon could face “brutal” backlash if the event again frustrated users.

Despite the social media backlash Amazon received for its first-ever Prime Day previous year, the online giant is hosting the event again on Tuesday, July 12, boasting even bigger bargains.

The deals are only for Amazon Prime subscribers.

Some customers early in the day complained they could not add items to their cart – especially Amazon’s “lightening Deals” – and lost out on the savings.

But Amazon said it was a success, with 18 percent more orders placed that day than the prior year’s Black Friday, the shopping day after Thanksgiving that’s typically the busiest day in retail.

Amazon shares hit another new all-time high in the stock market today in heavy volume before reversing lower, losing 0.7% at the close amid reports of so-so Prime Day sales.

But that doesn’t mean popular sale items – like TVs- will last.

The 24-hour sale is the company’s attempt to stir up summertime shopping mania, and it’s offering deals on a wide variety of products – electronics, kitchen appliances, jewelry, apparel.
