“I really think it kind of got people in the Christmas spirit”.
“From stores like Dean’s Clothing that has been here for so long to the Naperville Running Co., Naper Nuts & Sweets and so many others, we’re delighted to have so many stores take part in this great occasion known as Small Business Saturday and support these wonderful businesses”, Wood said. “We are bringing something new”, Buttrey said. “I pass by it all the time but I’ve never been in”.
KerMiTz owner Jessica Buttrey said they are the newest store in the area and opened their doors for the first time today.
Mattie Albin, 64, of Glen Cove, said independent businesses often have more unique products than chain stores. “There you have more mediocre, run-of-the-mill things”. When it comes to checking things off her holiday gift list, she said she doesn’t like to travel far.
Store owners each had a different approach for this weekend but were all hoping customers would remember them as they made their shopping plans.
Alphin said he trusts the judgment of the bookstore’s staff. “Whatever they put on the table I feel has passed the cut”, he said. “You’re not going to find that from companies online or a lot of the big box stores”.
In Naperville, Katie Wood, executive director of the Downtown Naperville Alliance, called Small Business Saturday “a great opportunity to visit the quaint and family-owned businesses in downtown Naperville”.

“I think it’s really important that we support local businesses”. “However, when you buy something, there’s more than just purchasing a box. You’re supporting your community!”
